This week we touched base with Alana Garlick and her amazing transformation since kicking it off at Citywide Fitness 2 years ago. Check out her story below! 👇🏽👇🏽
CF: Before finding citywide, what was your struggle? What were your biggest frustrations?
AG: Before citywide I had started a family and was busy with 2 little kids. I became less active and didn’t lose the baby weight through breastfeeding like everyone promised. I just kept slowly getting bigger. I struggled to find the time and motivation to exercise regularly around work and the kids and didn’t really think about what I was eating. I had tried a few diet and exercise options in the past but had never consistently stuck with a program or achieved the results I was hoping for.
CF: How did your struggle and frustrations affect your life? What did you feel like before you made your transformation?
AG: I wasn’t happy with my body, clothes didn’t fit anymore. I tried to hide my fat bits with drapey clothing. I used the excuse I didn’t have the time and after previous failures I didn’t really think it would be possible for me to lose 10kg let alone (almost) 20kg.
CF: How did our program help you?
AG: I first came to citywide (2 years ago) through the wonderful mums and bubs sessions with Krista Dennis as having kids was not a limiting factor to attending the gym! Then I tried (but didn’t totally stick to) a 12 week challenge October – December 15 followed by a Mum’s 28 Day Challenge January 16 and lost 6kg. I then fell pregnant with our third child and kept coming to the gym, right up to 37 weeks – it was my most active pregnancy! Things didn’t really click with mindset and nutrition until I jumped on the 28 Day challenges January 17 (when bubs was 3 months old). It took 8 months but I finally reached the goal I set back in January to fit back into my wedding dress!
CF: How is life different for you now?
AG: I am happy with my body and the reflection I see in the mirror now. Now 18kgs lighter I feel fitter and stronger but I still do not get enough sleep to have all the energy that people talk about once fit and healthy. I love being part of the citywide family and have made getting there most days part of my routine. I am glad I am now a positive, healthy and active role model to my children.
Well done Alana your journey has been amazing! You’re an absolute testament that if you just keep persisting, stay consistent, and don’t give up, you’ll smash those goals! Progress not perfection! And you look stunning in that wedding dress and the kids look super proud of their mum!
