This week we caught up with Caroline Gray and chatted about how her life has transformed since jumping on board at Citywide Fitness.
CF: Before finding citywide, what was your struggle? What were your biggest frustrations?
CG: Probably lack of commitment and accountability. I just kind of had in the back of my mind “I’ll start that diet later; or I’ll start exercising consistently next week, in summer, after Christmas…”
I trialled a gym where you just turn up and use the equipment, was bored within minutes every time, and found a reason to leave quickly, just because I could.
CF: How did your struggle and frustrations affect your life? What did you feel like before you made your transformation?
CG: I was sick of feeling listless, I didn’t have much energy. I was becoming more and more unhappy with the way I looked and the way clothes fitted. The more unhappy I felt, the less accountable I became in terms of facing up to my actions and changing behaviours.
It makes no sense now I look back, but that was the reality and I was very much stuck in a rut.
CF: How did our program help you?
CG: Through firstly the 12-week challenge, and now the 28-day challenge, keeping track of nutrition has given me the framework to keep in a routine, plan, and be accountable for what I eat.
If you are writing numbers down in a diary (and being honest about them!) then there is no hiding from the facts of how much, or what types of food, is being eaten. It is not that hard – but I need the extra discipline that comes from writing it down!
I learnt that about myself.
I really appreciate the big and small tips that the coaches have contributed along the way. From all the coaches I have learnt lots about technique, corrective movements, and in particular the importance of core strength and stability.
CF: How is life different for you now?
CG: I get cranky if I can’t train, and if other events get in the way of my training routine, whereas before Citywide any excuse would do.
I know even if I don’t feel like getting up early for a 6am session, or boxing after work, or pushing myself to try a bit harder, that 100% guaranteed I will feel great afterwards, and will be grateful that I did.
I am stronger and fitter than I have ever been, I surprised myself at how easy it was to piggy-back a five year old while traveling overseas earlier this year, when I struggled to go more than a few metres carrying that same (and much smaller!) child a couple of years before.
Caroline you are an absolute testament of how being accountable, being consistent, and constantly challenging yourself really pays off! Your story is amazing and you’ve done an absolute ripper effort and we are stoked to be able to be apart of your journey! Well done legend!
