This week we touched base with Lisa Norris and her amazing transformation after she started here with us at Citywide Fitness. She has gone from strength to strength and smashed goals since kickstarting a healthier lifestyle jumping on board a transformation challenge.
CF: Before finding citywide, what was your struggle? What were your biggest frustrations?
LN: I have struggled with my weight from childhood. I was active as a child/teen but time, money and work started to get in the way once I hit adulthood. I have had times dropping to a healthy weight but the weight always crept back on. It was always either on or off a diet, no real change in lifestyle where eating was concerned.
My biggest frustration was knowing what I had to do but not finding the time or motivation to do it. I knew I had to change my ways but there was always a block… the lack of money for a gym/sports membership, work, couldn’t leave the kids, kids were too busy.
CF: How did your struggle and frustrations affect your life? What did you feel like before you made your transformation?
LN: It was when I started to get muscle aches and pains without having exercised and had trouble sleeping in certain positions, that I knew it had gone too far and I had run out of time to not do something. I also began to feel self-conscious about being the “fat” mum on the sidelines at my kids sporting events.
CF: How did our program help you?
LN: I have been a gym member before but always lost interest and felt intimidated doing my own thing, hated the hours of cardio and could never make class times consistently. I knew a few people who went to Citywide and so when I saw an ad for the May 28 day challenge, I checked out times of sessions and decided that I just had to make it work. My family was, and still is, really supportive of my need to do this and stepped up in my absence and tackled the morning school/work chaos without complaint.
Although I knew what I had to do nutrition wise, the Citywide program was such a simple concept to follow without feeling like you were restricting yourself. There were no good or bad foods…just food. It really helped me change my mindset about eating and losing weight, that it wasn’t a temporary thing to do until the weight dropped, but a whole new way of thinking about food.
CF: How is life different for you now?
LN: Life is so much easier now in lots of ways. It’s easier to move, I am stronger, I feel more motivated and happier. I realised the other day that I have currently lost the same weight as my 8 year old daughter…mind blown. I sometimes think about how heavy a kettle bell is I am using and then realise it is less than half of the weight I have lost and wonder how I managed to move at all before. I still have a way to go until my goal of a healthy weight, but it doesn’t seem impossible or as daunting now. I love getting up at 530am to come in and see my “city-wives” each morning and have totally changed my mindset regarding how and what I eat.
Lisa you have done an absolutely amazing effort and we are super proud of you! You turn up and work hard, and the City-wives wouldn’t be the same without you! We love your happy smile and it’s a pleasure to have you a part of our Citywide Fitness fam!
